Less filling, tastes great! :) September 6, 2008 Aragorn (PA USA) It actually does taste good. Of course, 'taste' is quite a subjective matter so, to establish some frame of reference, I drink V8s in the winter, eat mass quantities of raw tomatoes while in season, real mangoes whenever they are on sale. But, given that I wouldn't take real mangoes to the office - messy to handle on a desk - I can see myself keeping a few bottles of 'mix one' in the fridge to help me start the day on good note.
To sum it up: 200 calories, nice ingredients, including real mango juice, the expected amounts of vitamins and minerals.
Overall, I enjoyed it. There is no after-taste and it seems to be filling enough to keep me going through lunch. If the price seems right to you and you enjoy the mango taste, go for it.
Pleasant tasting, Whey ok for lactose intolerant folks? September 6, 2008 Ace (East Coast) Mix 1 is a pleasant tasting pre-or post-workout drink, with "15 grams of premium whey protein isolate, 23 vitamins and minerals, 3 servings of fruits/veggies, antioxidants......"
I drank my sample slowly and thoughtfully -- it tasted like a thick, tangy Mango-yogurt drink, with little flecks of solids, similar to those little flecks one finds in buttermilk.
It was good and tasty. Afterwards (less than 1/2 hr later) I felt energized. It was not heavy on the stomach, but I consumed it as a PRE-workout drink, since I thought it might take some time to assimilate, unlike water or other types of fluid drinks consumed after a strenuous and hot/sweaty workout. The fact that is contains so many vitamins also impressed me.
This is something (I don't believe it needs refrigeration) that would be good to take on a hike, or for me to use as a meal replacement. It is very good by itself.
It contains whey -- is whey ok for those who are lactose intolerant???
My only gripe is the typeface color on the bottle -- white on yellow is not a very good choice. Black type would have been much more legible.
Healthy, Affordable, and actually Delicious September 6, 2008 Stephen Hall (USA) I am always somewhat skeptical of drinks that claim to deliver a healthy beverage packed with vitamins and protein, while at the same time assuring an enjoyable drinking experience. Mix 1 Mango really blew me away. The packaging is gorgeous and strong too.
However, the drink is the great thing. The flavor, taste, thickness, and texture are all ideal. It goes down easy, and every sip is not only healthy, but delicious.
I'm certainly going to be buying cases of these regularly. It certainly saves money over some of the health fruit drinks out there as well. Honestly, these drinks, chilled well, rival what you would get made fresh from a smoothie shop or whatnot, and this is so much easier and affordable. If you ever feel you want to change it up a bit, putting it in a blender to add a banana, and a little extra ice would be delicious too.
I'm impressed!
A little hard to swallow at first, but it got smoother September 5, 2008 Fathom (Sacramento, CA) It might have helped if I drank this cold, but I ended up drinking it luke warm. At first it was hard to swallow because it was like chugging down a bottle of powdered vitamins. But the more I drank, the smoother it got and I began to enjoy it.
For myself, an avid Mango eater, I really didn't taste much Mango. The smell is there, but not much mango taste. It didn't really bother me so the point was moot for me.
It does have about 22g of sugar, and that's probably what helped smoothed the drink down.
The drink was fluidly thick, but no worse than buying a smoothie with the vitamin powder thrown in.
Overall, I was a little skeptical when I first drank it. But I did finish it in one sitting. I would recommend this product, but drink it cold though.
