Healthy, Tasty Alternative to Candy Bars July 18, 2008 L Smith (Macomb, MI) How many of us try several "health bars" only to discover that most taste like cardboard or tree bark? If you are searching for a delicious and healthy alternative to candy bars, this might be the one for you.
Packed with a fruity, nutty sweet taste, this bar offers a tasty alternative to many of the chalky, fake-tasting bars on the market. Because let's face it...if you hate the taste of a health bar, you simply will not eat it. My husband and oldest son enjoyed the bars too, and I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a quick, healthy snack. Enjoy!
Reasonable taste; good ingredients. Not better than Larabar July 10, 2008 Jim Thorpe (Alexandria, VA) I ate these bars. My wife tasted one. She thought the Cherry taste was too artificial, though she is not typically a cherry fan. I thought it was not overly strong. I would buy these bars at a discount. I think they seem a bit like Larabar knock-offs, which I would rate as better tasting.
Not very good July 10, 2008 Romancer (Kennebunkport, MA) To be honest, this did not taste very good. Reading the ingredients, this bar appeared to contain just about everything you would want to eat. It had two main problems.
1. It had the consistency and texture of soggy cardboard. It was, literally, like eating strings of fiber, around which had been wrapped an artificial cherry flavor. I cannot emphasize how disgusting this is.
2. The after taste was like rubbing alcohol.
I'm sure this is very good for you, but even the serious carb running gels--which I think are some of the most disgusting energy foods on the planet--taste better then this bar.
You're wondering--if this bar is so bad, why am I giving it two stars?
Answer: Because the chocolate flavor was even worse.
Wholesome, high protein, and not just for those "on a diet" July 6, 2008 Rebekah Sue Harris (West Haven, CT USA) When I got the Balance Bar Pure Cherry Pecan during Passover, I was thrilled: no flour, no gluten.
This Balance Bar, from the PURE line, is different from the others I've had - its texture is a bit gooier, not as firm. Under 200 calories and with 9 grams of protein, it's a good addition to an office lunch. With 7 grams of fat, it meets a mere 11% of the suggested daily value, which is much better than super-sized fast food. I enjoyed it with yogurt and, another day, with fresh fruit.
I don't think it provides enough energy for someone who burns a lot of calories during the work day, although it would make a good afternoon snack for a hard worker who wants to stave off hunger until dinner.
My local supermarket is carrying the Balance Bar Pure Cherry Pecan and, while it's not as convenient as ordering on Amazon, at least people who won't order online will still be able to try this yummy addition to a wholesome meal.
not very tasty July 2, 2008 Living in Budapest (Budapest, Hungary (originally Ann Arbor, MI)) I'm a Balance Bar fan, but have to say that this particular Balance Bar does not taste very good. I can taste the Cherry but not the Pecan. The texture of the bar gives it a funny feel in your mouth. I'd recommend sticking with Balance Gold.
