the sensible celiac RSS feeds

What is RSS?

According to Wikipedia:

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader" or an "aggregator." The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

The initials "RSS" are used to refer to the following formats:

  • Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
  • RDF Site Summary (RSS 1.0 and RSS 0.90)
  • Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats.

 valid RSS 2.0

At the Sensible Celiac we have some expertise in working with RSS feeds, and have even built entire websites using only RSS, for example News Dolphin. Here we offer you feeds from this website, optionally with GF food items available at Amazon.com blended in. The RSS feeds offered here are in RSS2.0 format.

Get just what you want

Our main discussion forum RSS feed contains the most recent forum messages. This feed includes all boards in the forum and nothing else. This feed is the one used by most of our visitors.

Our blended RSS feed includes both the newest forum messages and the most popular GF food items at Amazon. Select this feed if you want to see the hottest selling gluten-free food items as well as our latest posts and recipes.

Our gluten-free recipes feed is derived exclusively from the recipes board in the forum. If you run a celiac-related blog or website, this feed might contain useful content for your site. Republish any of these feeds as desired.

Our gluten-free food feed contains the most popular items that are tagged as gluten-free at Amazon.com. When you make a purchase at Amazon by following a link from this feed you will also be supporting this site.

Our celiac-news feed contains only items from the forum board of that name.

The sensible celiac also maintains a blog called My Celiac Blog which has its own RSS feed.

You are welcome to use any or all of these RSS feeds on your own blog, website, RSS reader, or in any other way you wish. No special credit or attribution is required.

Use Our Widget

Users of Apple Mac computers are invited to download and use our RSS feed widget. You can see the most recent messages in the forum right on your dashboard. Try the Sensible Celiac widget today.

Roll your own RSS feed

The SMF forum software we are using lets you construct a URL for an RSS feed of any board in the forum. Start by copying this URL into your feed reader or aggregator:

http://www.sensibleceliac.com/discuss/index.php?board=6.0;type=rss;action=.xml;limit=10

Next navigate in the forum to the board you wish to follow using RSS. Observe the URL in your web browser location field. Unless you are in the GF recipes board, from which this URL was based, you will see that the value of board= is different than 6.0, change that value in the URL in your feedreader to match the value in the board you wish to track. Too hard? Ask the sensible celiac for help!
