Last night I went out with a group of friends for dinner. Usually, when I go for dinner, I would call the restaurant in advance and ask if they cater to persons who have celiac. But, this time I forgot and I decided to take a chance.
We went to a restaurant called Milestone's. They are located in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. When I arrived, I asked the waitress if they have wheat free items on their menu. She said she would look into this and that the head chef was also in. When she returned, she asked if I had a wheat allergy or celiac. I said celiac and she said she will be back with all the information that I needed. When she returned, she had a sheet from the staff binder with the choices that were available and also there was an explaination what celiac disease was. I made my choice and afterwards the manager came to speak to me. He explained that one of the ingredients that the chef required did not mention wheat but he asked for me to read the ingredients on the can to see if wheat could be under a different name. I read the can and I told to the manager that it appeared ok and I would still like to try the dish that I ordered.
The meal was fantastic! I ate every last bite. I was impressed that this restaurant took the time to make me feel comfortable and safe. Best of all, I did not get sick. I would recommend this restaurant to all.
I just needed to share my wonderful experience.
