I have been a fan of Trader Joe's since long before I was diagnosed, and I applaud their efforts to carry and make information available to celiacs re: GF food. I will continue to shop their stores. However, I am a bit annoyed about a recent experience.
My local store was sampling some chicken sausages with a spicy mustard, which looked very good. I asked the employee handing them out if she knew if they were gluten-free. She said yes, they are, and we got into a long discussion about celiac disease, during which I told her about this website. During this conversation, I tried the said sausage with mustard, and put some of each into my cart.
I recall feeling ill later that day, and passing it off as a mild stomach virus. Today, when I went to prepare some of these sausages, I pulled the mustard out of the pantry only to read "wheat flour" as the last ingredient listed. I promptly called Trader Joe's, to let them know of the issue, and a very apologetic manager asked me to come see him tomorrow.
Lesson to be learned: Don't take people's word. Read labels yourself.
