Recently a new, expanded Smart and Final store opened here in Palm Springs. Last Friday I stopped in because we needed coffee filters for our Bunn commercial coffee maker (must have coffee!).
I was amazed at the wonderful produce section and decided to do a mini-shopping trip. As I always do here in California whenever I'm checking out a new food store I looked for gluten free items too. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that they had frozen Van's gluten free toaster waffles, an item I almost always have for breakfast.
Until now I had never seen GF waffles in a supermarket here in the desert. I do see them in supermarkets when I visit family back east in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, but never around here until now. I have been buying my gluten free waffles at Trader Joe's, but they recently disappointed me by dropping the banana flavored waffles I prefer. At the same time the waffles that appear to be identical to Van's started appearing with ice crystals inside the package, making them soggy and not as nice.
Fortunately the GF waffles sold at our new local Smart & Final are just right.
