4 Year old son Allergic to GlutenEase PPV IV
« on: April 12, 2009, 04:56:18 AM »
My son cannot swallow capsules, so I open the capsule and sprinkle it on his bread/pizza.   Within a few minutes of eating, he begins to cough uncontrollably and his nose begins to drip.    I thought the first time it was a coincidence and maybe he was catching a cold.    I gave him more powder today with his bread and he continues to cough every 10 seconds for 8 hours.    I took him to the ER and they gave him Benadryl.      What is in this product that would make my son cough like this?

This happened once before when I gave him a product called Throat Coat Tea (Little Kiddies).    That product stated that if you are allergic to dandolines, pollen, do not drink.

Could GlutenEase have some sort of pollen in the capsule that would trigger my son's allergic reaction?

Please help!!!     This product can be very dangerous!!! :x

I would never use this product in the first place since I am unaware of any potential benefit that I might get from using it.  For people with celiac disease there is a potential risk involved, as more efficient digestion of large proteins in the stomach might increase the amount of peptide fragments reaching the small intestine, posing the risk of a more severe reaction to eating gluten.

I firmly believe it is very unwise for people like myself who have celiac disease to use this product.  I have never seen a single bit of scientific evidence that might suggest this product serves any useful purpose.

Is there a specific reason that you were giving this to the child?  I assume that he has not been diagnosed with celiac disease, since you mentioned giving him pizza and you did not say it was gluten free pizza.
