Tasty Bite Indian and Thai Food
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:18:23 AM »
If you like mildly to very spicy Indian and Thai food, be on the lookout for Tasty Bite brand food products.  I see them occasionally in supermarkets and health food stores, and a few varieties are sold online at places like Amazon and glutenfree.com, but to see the full variety of their product line you should go directly to their own website http://tastybite.com/

They clearly label on the packages and in their online shopping pages which of their items are gluten free, also indicating which ones are vegetarian or even vegan.

I certainly like some of their items more than others.  The products come in foil bags which are much like MRE foods used by the military.  I like to serve the vegetable items over rice.

Among my favorites are Satay Vegetables and Kerala Vegetables, both vegan as well as gluten free.  I often will have one of these for lunch over some brown rice or white rice.  I would say these are mildly spicy, maybe a 3 on a scale of 10.  I consider them delicious.  If you order 6-packs and buy $50 worth to get the free shipping the cost goes down just below $2 each for the entrees.

Some of their products include a portion of rice as well as the entree.  I do not prefer those.  They also sell  a product called Mexican Pilaf which seems to be an Indian impression of Mexican style rice, it is absolutely horrible, the rice is gooey and mushy and there is virtually no flavor at all. Stick with the entrees!

Right now they are offering free shipping on orders over $50.  Since we live in earthquake country I try to keep at least a week's worth of food that requires no cooking, in a worst case scenario you could eat one of these cold right out of the packet, as they are cooked.

Trader Joe's sometimes carry Tasty Bite products, but more recently I see equivalent products with the Trader Joe's brand, I suspect these are actually Tasty Bite products rebranded with the TJ's name.  If you like food that is quite spicy try the Punjab Eggplant.

Have you ever tried any Tasty Bite items?  What do you think about them?
