As you may already know, many fast food restaurants coat their french fries with a thin patina of flour. Just enough to make one of us sick.

Even if you find a fast food restaurant that does not coat their potato products, there still may be risks involved based on what other foods are cooked in the same oil as the fries.

When I'm out driving and I see a fast food restaurant, I drive by fast.

Let's be careful out there.

It's so hard to pass up those yummy fries if I'm splurging on a burger!  But you're absolutely right, Steve - they are a major source of hidden gluten.  Even if the fries aren't coated with flour before cooking, we need to remember to inquire about what other items are cooked in the same frying oil (onion rings are a major offender at fast food restaurants, while chicken strips, et. al., are common at other types of restaurants.)  It's a hassle to remember to all the necessary inquiries sometimes, but I'm often surprised at how many kitchens have a devoted fryer just for the fries.

I don't eat much at fast food restaurants any more, but ever since the low-carb craze kicked into high gear, it's getting easier and easier to find safe meals at these eateries.  Lettuce-wrapped burgers, salad as a side dish, fruit sides, etc.  Dr. Atkins helped us out a bit!

Well I ate at IN and OUt today. I ordered athe burger protein style ( lettuce wrap) and I said- I get really sick from a crumb of bread so please keep it crumb free.  When I got to my mom's house, I had a double double on bread.  The french fries were great and the dogs loved the bun.  Bye

Burger King now lists their fries as free of wheat and cooked in a dedicated fryer for french fries only.

I saw a new item about this, and I wondered if their french fries might also be vegan.  At McDonalds for years they were saying that their french fries were vegan, while "flavoring" the deep fryer oil with beef fat.
