Delta airline GF menu
« on: May 16, 2006, 02:44:17 AM »
I booked a flight from Europe in two weeks and contacted Delta Airlines to reserve a Gluten free meal during the transatlantic flight.

They answered me that they don't serve GF meals anymore
the alternatives the offer are
vegetarian, seafood (cold), moslim, kosjer, low sodium, diabetic, asian en bland.

can anybody advice me on what I should order ?

My first suggestion is to carry enough food to get you through your entire trip in your carry on luggage.  I rely on things like rice crackers, energy bars, and dried fruit.

Never, ever trust an airline to give you GF food. It's possible that it might happen, but the odds are not in your favor in my experience. I've been to Europe 3 times and Japan twice. While the food service on long-haul international flights is better than domestic (what domestic food service?), it still is subject to errors.

Now in my case, since I'm vegan as well as a celiac it is exceptionally difficult to get food I can eat on an airplane or anywhere else. I've had my best luck overall ordering asian or asian vegetarian when it is available.  Usually I end up giving away some or most of my meal.

That reminds me to stock up on plane food again as we are going to Scotland this summer.

Thanks for the advise.
I usually travel on United for transatlantic flights and they serve GF Meals

they will still give you pretzels and stuff, and when I made a remark last year to the flight attendent, that people who order GF Food don't do that for fun, the flight attended responded ; If I give you something you can't eat, give it away.

I was surprised to see on the Delta Airlines website that they have so many different meal options for religion, but no meal options for health.
I think I will order chinese food, ans see what they give me.
I usually have three days foodsupply in my luggage to get me thru the first few days
And I have a statement from my doctor that I am a celiac patient and the food is my medicine.
Never been stopped by customs, But I have never declared that I am caring food
I carry a few breads, a package of GF Spagetty and other noodles

I bought a book a few months ago that has GF restaurants in the states in it, so I know where to go on my next trips.
