Gluten-Free Higher Protein Power Bars
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:16:32 AM »
Here is a link to my favorite recipe for no bake power bars.  Especially good if you are watching your glycemic index:

What would you add (or subtract) in your power bar recipes?

Hi Elena,

Those bars look lovely.  If I were making them for myself I'd leave out the flax seed meal, as it tends to bother my gut.  I suppose the flax seed is acting as a binder though.

I've never made my own power bars, but those look good.  I'll have to give them a try!

Hi Steve-

I used the flax to add fiber and omega 3's to the protein bars.  I would guess that between the nut butter, agave and coconut oil, that the bars would still hold together even if you omitted the flax.  Let me know how it goes if you experiment.

I have gone through different phases with flax; it used to irritate my gut.  For the last year or so I do really well with it mixed with other foods in small amounts.

BTW, you have set up an amazing forum here!  I am really enjoying it.  Thanks for all of your work!!!!!!
